hod feeder fishing is one of the most popular techniques used by modern match anglers, which means that the fish have probably already been caught a number of times and may therefore be a little wary or, in some lakes, have changed their feeding habits.

This is what Des Shipp noticed when he kept getting hits on the Method but these didn't turn into real bites. This was because the fish were removing all the leader from the feeder without touching the hook, leaving the hook with no food around it, which defeats the purpose of method feeder fishing. So we decided to create a stickier, harder, denser groundbait that's easy to compact on a method feeder where it's needed.

Robin Red Method Mix has a very high protein content from fishmeal and ground pellets, and this is what helps it to compact around a method feeder, meaning it will easily withstand the impact of casting, impact on the water and falling into the water and all the little bumps from fish trying to knock the groundbait off.

Method Mix Robin Red contains a quantity of Haith's Robin Red. This is a strong-smelling ingredient that has been used in fishing for many years.

As the name suggests, it's not just a method bait. The high fishmeal content lends itself perfectly to the creation of a rod paste simply by adding water. If you prefer a really soft paste, keep adding water until you achieve the desired consistency.

Mixing tips

Robin Red Method Mix is easy to mix. Empty the 2 kg bag of starter into a round mixing bucket, fill a 2-quart maggot tray with water, pour it over the starter and mix thoroughly, then leave to stand for 30 minutes, during which time the water will be absorbed by the starter. Then, for best results, to remove any lumps and create a homogeneous consistency, strain the groundbait through a sieve and it's ready to use.

When fishing, the sun and wind can dry out the groundbait a little. To avoid this, you can cover the mixed groundbait with a damp towel, or if it dries out, simply add a little more water and mix again.
